How To Get Rid Of Shingles Scars On Face

Other Treatments For Chickenpox Marks

How to treat shingles
  • Topical Creams: Scars removal creams and ointments, can be used to improve the colour, texture, and overall appearance of the scar. These ointments can help make the scars less noticeable. However, the creams are ineffective on deep pitted chickenpox scars.
  • Silicone Sheets: Silicone sheets specifically designed for raised chickenpox scars can be used to flatten, shrink, and fade both new and old scars. The silicone sheets hydrate the scar tissue and over time the scars fade and soften. To see positive results, you will have to use the silicone sheets daily for six months.
  • Exfoliation: Exfoliating the skin with chemical peels or microdermabrasion helps to get rid of the skins upper layers, which makes the chickenpox scars less visible.
  • Sunscreen: Applying a dermatologist-recommended sunscreen with SPF 30 daily will help in faster fading of the scar by preventing pigmentation due to sun exposure, making it less visible over time.

If you have tried the options above without gaining the desired results, it might be due to the nature of the scars as well as the body area affected by them. It is advisable to seek professional treatments by visiting an experienced dermatologist.

Scars And Skin Problems After Shingles

Because I have scars from shingles and some worrisome red blotchy areas, where the shingles were, I did some research today. According to my research, shingles scars tend to be deep red or even purple. The scars can lay flat against the skin though some, like mine, can be raised or even pitted. I read that cooked oatmeal cooled to a soft stage, can be applied directly to the skin and rubbed into it. Rub in the oatmeal for 15-20 minutes per day. It is said by many that this process will fade or eliminate shingles scars. Rubbing the oatmeal into the skin everyday, some claim, will not only help scarring but also it will ease neuralgia pain and itching. I’m going to try this oatmeal treatment. Hopefully, it will help.

Yes. You just cook the oatmeal as you normally would to eat it.

Then, let it cool and rub it into your shingles scars or in the area where you have nerve pain for 15 or 20 minutes every day. I don’t know if it will work but according to a lot of people it does help to reduce the scars and pain.

    Tiffany,

You are correct that oatmeal will definitely help with the itching and burning of neuralgia, although the effect is temporary. As soon as the oatmeal is removed, the itching returns. Having had severe itching due to allergic reactions to medications involving my entire body, I would take oatmeal baths 3x per day.

I am uncertain if it helps resolve the redness.

  • Lavender And Olive Oil

Research suggests that lavender essential oil could help with wound healing.

One on rats found that the surface area of wounds topically treated with lavender oil was significantly decreased when compared with that of the control group.

    Try it:

  • Mix three drops of lavender essential oil into three tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil.
  • Massage the mixture into the scarred area for about 5 minutes.
  • Leave the oil in place for about 30 minutes.
  • Rinse the area with warm water.
  • Repeat this process a minimum of three times a day.

    Shingles Vs Other Skin Conditions

Shingles is different from other conditions in several ways:

    • People may experience pain, including burning, tingling, or electrical sensations on their skin for 1 to 2 days before the rash develops.
    • The shingles rash looks like a group of small blisters or lesions.
    • The rash usually develops in one area, not as patches of blisters in different areas on the face.
    • Shingles usually affects just one side of the face.
    • Makeup, sun exposure, or an allergy do not trigger shingles.
    • Shingles will not spread from one area of the body through contact, unlike some other rashes.
    • Some people develop more lesions after the initial outbreak. These blisters might be near the location of the first rash, or somewhere else.
    • The rash begins as sore blisters that may then crack, bleed, and scab over.
    • Shingles lasts 1 to 2 weeks.
    • Shingles sometimes causes other symptoms, such as a fever, headache, muscle aches, and stomach pain or vomiting.
    • Only people who have previously had chickenpox can get shingles.

Shingles, or herpes zoster, is a painful rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus . This is the same virus that causes chickenpox.

This virus remains dormant in a part of your nervous system called the dorsal root ganglion. It can be reactivated during times of stress or illness, or when the immune system is weakened by an autoimmune disease or cancer.

The risk of developing shingles is relatively low for healthy young adults about 4 out of 1,000 people in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . Its much higher for those above age 60. Shingles affects about 1 out of 100 people in this older age group, the CDC says.

Generally, a case of shingles rash resolves within 3 to 4 weeks. It can resolve without treatment, but antiviral treatment can shorten both the duration and severity of the rash.

Ways To Say Goodbye To Scars

There are many different types of scars based on the cause of the scar and the healing that took place after the skin injury occurred. Scars can cause symptoms such as pain, itching, tightness, and restriction of motion, but they can also just be plain unsightly or an unwanted reminder of a past injury.

If you have recently developed a scar, either from a surgery or injury to the skin, it is important to keep it protected from the sun while it is healing. Sun-avoidance and keeping the scar covered with a bandage is essential during the initial phase to improve the healing and reduce scarring and discoloration.

If the wound is healed and you desire further improvement in the appearance of the scar, consider treatment sooner rather than later. Scars can be treated as early as three to four weeks after the injuring or surgery, although older scars will respond to treatments as well.

Fortunately, there are many options to choose from to effectively treat scars. You doctor will select treatment based on the type of scar, such as raised, flat, or indented the appearance of the scar, whether it is red, white, or dark location of the scar and the cause of the scar. If the scar is from a surgical procedure, lasers can be used as soon as a few weeks after the stitches have been removed or after the scar has fully healed over. Acne scars can be treated once the acne is under control. Here are some of the most popular scar treatments you can consider for yourself.

Treatment is the same no matter where shingles develop. Treatment will involve taking an antiviral drug to reduce the severity of the outbreak and help it disappear more quickly.

People will see the best results if they take antiviral medication within 72 hours of the rash appearing.

In most cases, a doctor will prescribe the drugs famciclovir and valacyclovir. People with weak immune systems may need to take a different drug, such as acyclovir, instead.

Most research suggests anti-shingles drugs are safe for people who are breast-feeding, but those who are pregnant or breast-feeding should discuss medications with their doctors.

People who develop PHN may also require pain medication. PHN medication may include oral drugs, such as opioids or creams that people can apply directly to the skin.

Promising review:I suffered from cystic acne most of my teen years and adult life and at 34, I finally figured out the right combination of medications . Since my focus has always been on skincare products, and I research a lot, you can believe Ive tried most products and brands. PMD did not disappoint. My scars are fading, my skin is brighter , softer, and most importantly, my texture has improved greatly. Scar indentations are not prominent anymore, but they were never too severe. Patience is key. Ive also noticed that my hormonal/sun dark spots are lighter and now I use less concealer. Its so easy to use and such a fast process. Just use it after your shower on a dry face and immediately slap on your favorite toner and moisturizer. The green discs are my go-to because theyre not too coarse, but coarse enough and they dont irritate my skin. Just dont use over acne. Go around it because it will irritate your skin further on an active breakout. Try it!strawberrieland

If My Shingles Rash Is Mild Or Has Mostly Healed Do I Need To See A Doctor

Its a good idea to see a doctor whenever you have a case of shingles, no matter how mild.

Prompt antiviral treatment not only decreases the duration and severity of the rash but can also decrease the chance of developing post-herpetic neuralgia. Post-herpetic neuralgia is a complication of shingles characterized by long-term, debilitating pain.

If your rash has mostly healed, its still a good idea to see a doctor so they can monitor the rash for changes or complications, such as a bacterial skin infection that forms on top of your existing rash. This is known as a superimposed infection.

How To Get Rid Of Scars Naturally

Scars are typically the result of an injury, such as a small cut, laceration or burn stretch marks from pregnancy or significant weight changes or an incision due to surgery or even acne. Scars can be flat or may protrude, often severely.

They can be difficult to live with, especially if the scar is in an exposed location on the body, such as the face or hands, which is why so many people want to know how to get rid of scars. Here are my eight secrets for natural scar removal.

    1. Shea Butter and Coconut Oil

If you have experienced an injury, such as a cut, laceration or burn, keep the area moist and covered while it heals. You can use raw shea butter or coconut oil to keep the wound moist. This may help prevent a scar or keep a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.

The omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants in both shea butter and coconut oil have been shown to inhibit keloid scar tissue and repair skin. Additionally, because shea butter and coconut oil are very effective at moisturizing the skin, they can be part of a continued regimen to help minimize some scarring. Simply apply shea butter or coconut to the skin two to three times a day. There is no need to wash it off since shea butter and coconut oil are both very beneficial for your skin. However, be careful not to let it get on any silk garments, as it may stain.

    2. Silicone Gel Sheeting

    3. Pressure Garments

    5. Aloe Vera

    6. Essential Oils: Tea Tree and Helichrysum

    7. Emu Oil

    Avoid Scratching The Blisters

It might be tempting to scratch or pick at the blisters, especially if theyre causing you discomfort. Know that theyll eventually crust over and fall off if you leave them alone.

Scratching at blisters or scabs can lead to infection and scarring. Cleaning and covering them regularly with a new sterile bandage can help reduce the likelihood that youll pick at the rash.

Keeping the rash clean is one part of the process. The other is to make sure you bandage it properly, especially if the rash is still weeping .

When dealing with a painful shingles rash, your best bet is to use bandages that are:

When youre switching the dressing, allow the skin to dry before covering it with a new bandage.

In addition to keeping the rash protected, bandaging also prevents you from passing the varicella-zoster virus to another person. Be sure to keep bandages on any areas of the rash that havent scabbed over yet.

While shingles isnt contagious, the virus that causes it can be passed to anyone who hasnt had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine. If they come into skin-to-skin contact with the fluid that oozes from a shingles blister, they could end up with chickenpox, according to

What Are The Symptoms Of Shingles

Shingles-occurring in a dermatome or an area of the skin characterized by a nerve group.

The main symptoms are burning and itching. This often occurs in a localized region of the skin that is defined by a nerve grouping. Discomfort usually begins one to two days before the shingles rash develops. Fever, chills, cough or headache may accompany initial symptoms. When the rash is fully developed, it is characterized by a clustered group of blister. Blisters occur over a dermatome or segment of the skin that is defined by a localized group of nerve fibers. They can last up to two to three weeks depending on the immune status of the affected individual. Pus can also be noted in the blisters, however, this is only temporary because the blisters usually crust over and disappear by seven to ten days.
