Comprehensive Comparison Between Landmark Moire Black And Charcoal Black

Since household improvement is a long-term investment, you dont want to go wrong with it. Here is an in-depth discussion of different vital factors, both roofing shingles colors.

Landmark Moire Black comes with a lighter shade. It is a flat black color without any color variation.

Plus, the favorite color has been a secret weapon for many great fashion houses.

This uniform color can give the exterior area of your home an appealing look.

On the contrary, Landmark Charcoal Black is mainly a mixture of black and grey. Users take them as a really dark gray color.

But it might be more vulnerable to color fading or discoloration issues over time. This mainly happens due to excessive sun exposure.

Landmark Moire Black has repetitive patterns with spatial frequencies. The consistency and hue of the color are maintained. In addition, its brightness level is around 20% and has a hue of 325°. Lower hue and higher brightness levels make it easily distinguishable.

On the other hand, Landmark Charcoal Black has some variations in its color. It is free of noticeable undertones and has a neutral hue. Its brightness level is around 13% and has a hue of 359°.

You can effortlessly distinguish its color from regular black.

Landmark Moire Black is a more appropriate option for summer weather. Since it has a lighter shade, more sunlight will be reflected. Hence, less heat will enter your house.

As a result, you will be more comfortable during hot weather.

The Great Roof Color Debate

We must decide soon and our builder prefers Certainteed Landmark dimensional shingles. We want a black roof and Id prefer one that is a soft black with less variation but Im having a hard time deciding between Charcoal Black and Moire Black. Much of the info out there is confusing and in a lot of pics, they look the same in some lighting. Some say Moire is just a really dark gray but is more uniform in color. Some say its darker than Charcoal, though, which appears to maybe have maybe slightly more variation. Others say Charcoal is darker.

Our house will be an off white/warm gray board and batten farmhouse with white windows and trim. Brick skirting will be Meridian Old Overton.

Moire Black:

Charcoal Black:

Our builder hasnt done these colors near me and showrooms are closed so I cant look at sample boards. I was just hoping someone here was familiar with both and could advise.

Oh, and is the Landmark Pro shingle worth the upgrade over regular Landmark. Why or why not?

Thanks!

Color Is Ingrained Into Our Max Def Shingles

When it comes to roofing shingles, the product color is actually a complex array of colored granules that are combined to create gradient blends on the shingle surface. However, without beautifully colored granules, you cant get a deep and robust shingle color.

The journey to a high-quality color starts in the laboratory, where our research and development teams explore hundreds of different pigments and pigment combinations in order to identify the color blends needed to create a shingle color. Compared to standard shingle colors, Max Def colors have a unique and special blend composition that highlights the colors and aesthetics of the shingles.

Once the colors for the granule blend are identified, the granules are color-coated and added to our shingle surfaces during the manufacturing process using precise instruments that place the granules on the shingles to exacting specifications. The result is a rich shingle surface that creates your ideal roof color.

Certainteed Landmark Max Def Pro Roof Color Choice

I am agonizing over the color of our roof and we’ve changed our minds once already. We just told our roofer we want to proceed with Moire Black, but now I’m second guessing myself. I have driven around and looked at about 4-5 examples of each color and it isn’t helping too much. I see some photos and it looks like Moire is so variegated where I worry it will look too busy. But then other photos it looks fine. In person I usually think it looks ok but maybe on the busy side, but lighting can affect it so greatly that I wonder when it looks ok is it just because the lighting is just right? Or is it because I was told it was Moire Black PRO but it’s really just standard which I think has a much more uniform look? I tried to use the CertainTeed website to check it out with our house. Our siding will be changing and shutters removed next year. Can ANYONE help me if they’ve already been through this dilemma? I’ve searched the existing conversations and still feel confused. Any photos of either color – MAX DEF PRO – would be greatly appreciated! I am so worried that Charcoal would be too stark/too dark, and I’m worried the Moire will be too “busy.” I’m sure I’m overthinking this! I guess anything will be an improvement over the existing roof??? 🙂

Excuse the spiders and note that we have left to right Pewterwood, Moire Black and Charcoal Black samples on the garage roof in this photo.
